The Stewards Corner

Esteemed Members of Mt. Olive,

The time for the special presentations by the Growing in Christ Committee is drawing near. The publicity has been circulating for the last two months. The members of the committee have been preparing for many weeks to carry out the work which has been given to them. That work is to help us all understand both the opportunities and challenges that lie before us. The sign-up process, designed to bring every household in the congregation to one of the sessions, has begun.

Mt. Olive Lutheran Church and School together make up a sizable operation. We have a professional staff consisting of two full time pastors and a teacher for every grade in our school. In addition, a support staff helps our pastors and teachers with the many practical details of the work of church and school. Hundreds of hours of volunteer services are also provided by our members to keep our various boards and committees functioning. Our annual budget exceeds one million dollars. The list of things that keep Mt. Olive going is quite remarkable.

By the grace of God the Gospel in Word and Sacrament has been in the midst of this congregation for many decades. Hundreds of people have had their faith sustained by the preaching and teaching of the Word and the administration of the Sacraments at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church and School. By the grace of God this will continue to be the case in the future for hundreds more.

What does the future hold for us? Can we continue to provide the services of church and school as we enjoy them now? Will we have to cut back? Will we be able to expand and grow in what we do together? These are challenging questions for us.

We will keep on praying together that the name of God may be hallowed among us, that his kingdom will flourish among us, and that his will may be done. We will continue to hear the Gospel proclaimed in our pulpit and our classrooms. We will continue to support that work in keeping with the means we have through our various vocations.

Please look forward to coming together with the members of your congregation to hear what the Growing in Christ Committee has to present to us.
